Abdominoplasty Procedure
- Outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia in
our AAAHC accredited
surgery center.
A lower bikini incision is made, and then lax muscles are
tightened and excess skin is removed. A tummy tuck is often
performed in combination with liposuction, which removes
excess fatty tissue.
- Can be performed as a mini-tuck, treating the tissues from
the lower abdomen to the belly button, or a full tummy
tuck, treating the tissues above and below the navel.
- Takes an hour and a half to three hours,
depending upon the type of tummy tuck performed and patient
characteristics.
Abdominoplasty Recovery
- You should rest for the first twenty-four hours after
surgery and have someone with you during this period. You may
slowly resume normal activities, but should not do any heavy
lifting or strenuous activity for one to two weeks.
- Drains may be used, and are usually removed a week after your
procedure.
- Sutures are removed a week after your procedure.
- You will wear a compression garment for three to six weeks
after surgery to help control swelling. You may not shower
for two days after surgery. On the third day after your
surgery, you may remove the garment to shower, and then put
it back on. This garment is crucial to developing the contour
of your new body.
- Pain is moderate, but controlled with medication.
- Bruising is normal, as well as numbness of abdominal area.
Bruising usually subsides by the end of two weeks, numbness
can last for six months.
Abdominoplasty Result
- Trimmer, tighter look to the stomach area.
- Smaller waist size and greater flexibility shopping for
clothes.
