THE PROCEDURE
- Anesthesia is a local injection or with a pre-operative
oral medication, and the procedure is often done in the
office and very comfortable.
- The incision is very inconspicuous and is located in
the crease behind the ear.
- The procedure involves small incisions to reshape the
cartilage gently and smoothly without any visible sharp
edges or angles. Stitches hold the cartilage in position.
- Sensation and ability to hear are maintained.
- A dressing is applied after surgery and removed he
next day. A “Ski” band is then required to
be worn when sleeping
THE RECOVERY
- You can go home and resume normal light activities
the same or next day.
- You can shower on the next day after surgery.
- There is only minimal pain that is mostly gone by the
next day.
- Swelling is mild to moderate and peaks a two to three
days then disappears rapidly over the next three weeks.
- Minimal or no bruising is the usual.
- The stitches are removed at seven days.
- There is usually no need to be off work.
