Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)
THE PROCEDURE The tummy tuck procedure is ideal for those patients who have loose skin, weak abdominal muscles, and fatty tissues in the belly area. Liposuction, which removes the excess fatty tissue is also commonly performed as part of this procedure. However, the tummy tuck procedure removes excess skin and tightens lax muscles as well. The mini-tuck treats the tissues in the lower abdomen to the belly-button and the full-tummy tuck treats the tissues above and below the navel. Results with each of these procedures can be quite rewarding. These procedures are often performed under general anesthesia, but can be performed under intravenous sedation quite safely. Drains are often utilized for several days, and some patients will wear a garment for 1-2 weeks. Recovery is typically one to two weeks. |
